The Marathon for Del is less than a month away! It's crazy how quickly the time has passed, but I'm thrilled that it's finally warm enough out there for me to sport my runningfordel t-shirt and spread the word on AHC.
After finding routes in other cities for the past two long runs, this weekend I got to run 19 miles around good ol' Chicago! I was a little concerned about getting bored because I was running solo, but my friends Nathan and Martha let me borrow their nifty Garmin GPS watch. This little thing is amazing. I was able to check my pace at all times, chart my elevation, calculate the calories I burned, and--best of all--know EXACTLY when I had run 19 miles so I could stop! Despite some strong wind heading north, and a near collision with some pigeons in the loop (don't ask), the run felt pretty great. And I managed to average a pace of 9:41 (specificity brought to you compliments of the Garmin) throughout the run, leaving me feeling pretty optimistic.
My next, and final, long run will be next Saturday. I'll be doing 20 miles and then tapering before heading up to Green Bay with Gara on May 16. Anyone who wants to join me for a few miles is more than welcome! I can use all the help I can get.
Here's my route!
Right now I've received a little over $600 in contributions for AHC, which is about 1/3 of the way to my $2,000 goal. I'd love to reach this goal before the marathon, so please pass on the information about the AHCF to friends and family. Every contribution helps!
